Carbolin Raw Linseed Oil is a traditional and completely natural oil obtained from the extract of flax seed. Linseed oil penetrates unsealed wood to leave a natural, water resistant finish with a slightly enhanced colour.

You will find that it darkens slightly with age.

Use on oak beams, bean canes, cricket bats and many other woodcraft applications. Carbolin raw linseed oil hardens slowly when exposed to air, so use where a quick drying time is not needed. When the weather is kind, try using it on willow fencing diluted 50/50 with white spirit. Want to know more about linseed oil or other wood oils?  Read our blog here.

  • Traditional oil suitable for all wood types
  • Helps wood retain its natural moisture content which prevents cracking and shrinking
  • Areas should be clean, dry and free from traces of dust, dirt, oil, grease, wax and silicone before treating
  • Used as a lubricant in French Polishing.

Please take care when disposing of rags used to apply linseed oil. Rags soaked in linseed oil are a known hazard and can spontaneously combust as this East Sussex Fire and Rescue feature illustrates.

Apply minimum 3 coats leaving 24 hours between each coat and a 7-14 allow 7 days (or until dry) after the final coat before using treated item

For best results on new woods, dilute the first two coats with 30% Turps/White Spirit

Can also be used to soften putty and as a lubricant for French Polishing

Mainly used for internal purposes but if used outside, we recommend a prior application of wood preservative treatment that must be allowed to dry before applying Raw Linseed Oil. Regular retreatment will be required.

Preparation and method of application are essential for great results:

Shake oil well before use. Keep container upright at all times
Ensure wood to be treated is dry, free from dirt and repellant coatings such as wax, paint and varnish (remove and sand down as required).
Wipe oily woods with White Spirit before application
Apply by brush or lint free cloth – after 10-15 minutes, remove excess oil with a lint free cloth
Clean equipment with White Spirit
Precaution: cloths used for oiling may spontaneously combust. Immediately after use, soak them in soapy water then lay them flat outside on a non-combustible surface to dry

Application: Brush or lint free cloth

Coverage: 1 litre to 8-10 sq metres

Not recommended for furniture and flooring.

1 L, 2.5 L, 5 L, 25 L
